Fans might to get to see a lot more of Jeffrey Dean Morgan on AMC’s The Walking Dead because Negan isn’t going anywhere in the comics.

The Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard recently told The Huffington Post there’s no end game for Negan’s character in the comics, at least not yet.

“I don’t really know what his final game plan is, which is exciting,” Adlard told HuffPost. “You don’t know where he’s going to go, which is probably quite unique in the character because you’ve pretty much got a grip on most of the characters ― good or bad. Whereas for Negan, you still think he could go either way, and I like that idea. Personally, I don’t think he’s as villainous as everyone assumes he is.”

The thing about Negan is he’s a lot like The Joker; Batman cannot exist without The Joker. Bruce Wayne knows everyone, including himself, is one bad day away from becoming a Joker. Negan serves are a reminder to Rick that sometimes you need to be bad in order to do some good.

[Warning: The Walking Dead comic spoilers ahead]

In the comics, Rick refuses to kill Negan after he takes down the Saviors in All Out War. Rick keeps Negan locked up, until he realizes he might need someone like him to take down an even worse evil out there. Rick eventually lets Negan out of Alexandria’s prison, and it doesn’t take long for The Walking Dead villain to take out the threat.

However, you can never tell what Negan’s long game is. He’s always calculating his next move. Negan could want to kill Rick, but he’d never reveal it until the time was right.

Still, Negan sticking around in the comics means more Jeffrey Dean Morgan on The Walking Dead TV series. Even though the Season 6 finale cliffhanger was lame , Morgan’s performance as the character was stellar.

The Walking Dead Season 7 returns Oct. 23 on AMC.
