There’s an explosive surprise coming soon for players of War Thunder. The upcoming Danger Zone update is introducing a new weapon called incendiary air bombs.
In the game, incendiary mixtures will be a new type of weapon available for high rank aviation. For the Danger Zone update, some types of American and Soviet-made incendiary bombs will appear for the American, German, Soviet, Israeli and Chinese aircraft. The development team revealed that they’ll be adding new types of incendiary bombs for aviation of other gaming nations.
The question is, how do they work? Incendiary bombs can be mounted on the aircraft using the weapon menu and after researching a corresponding modification. As a rule, it is possible to take napalm along with other armaments.
Impact Effect
Dropping incendiary bombs is the same as dropping a conventional high-explosive bomb. For an aircraft equipped with a ballistic bomb calculator, players can also see the drop point in RB and SB. Upon impact, an incendiary mixture is then spilled over an area and ignited. This burning mixture sticks to the surfaces in the location, such as wet mud, puddles, and even water surfaces.
Damage to Vehicles
Napalm is able to deal damage to open-top armored vehicles and affect the crew members. Light armored vehicles and tires of wheeled vehicles will be burned as if they were on fire. For ships and boats, the damage when the napalm spills in the deck is similar to a fire. For aircraft, if they’re hit by an incendiary mixture on the ground, they are destroyed almost immediately.
Ignited mixture will burn for some time, charring trees and grass. Any open-top or wheeled vehicles driving into the area receive damage similar to fire damage.
Tactical Uses
Destructive as it is, there are tactical ways of using it in battle. For example, players can protect a point captured by their team from being taken by enemy scouts. All they need to do is spill campers in bushes and thickets. Players then need to pour napalm in one of the directions of movement of the enemy team and block any passage or damage light vehicles.
For air battles, incendiary mixtures are useful in destroying AI convoys.
