Watch Dogs 2 will feature multiplayer, similar to the first Watch Dogs, but even more expanded. Multiplayer will be both cooperative and competitive, and is seamlessly integrated into the single-player experience.
As seen in the trailer above, players can join up with friends to tackle co-op missions. According to the video, these missions are endless, which means they are probably randomly generated. It also sounds like you get scored on these missions, with leaderboards showing “who’s the best hacker in town.”
On the competitive side, players will be able to sneak into others games to try and hack them. If you get hacked, you must hunt down and take out your new enemy. If you’re the one doing the hacking, you’ll need to be quiet and sneaky to pull off your heist. This mode is pretty much always running, as you’ll see other online players in your game. To start an Invasion, simply sneak up on one of these players and get going.
The last mode on display in the video is called “Bounty Hunt.” If a player causes too much chaos while roaming the streets of San Francisco in Watch Dogs 2, up to three others will be invited to that player’s game to hunt them down for a reward. That means if you go on a innocent civilian killing spree, expect to see other players show up to end it.
Of course, these online features are entirely optional. If you want to have the basic single-player experience with no frills, you can do that. The trailer mentions participating in online modes will unlock additional rewards, outfits and more, so you will need to play online if you want the complete experience.
