Nintendo premiered an animated short titled Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins on Wednesday to promote its upcoming game Star Fox Zero, which will arrive April 22. You can watch the anime short Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins below:
The story treads familiar ground, with Fox McCloud introducing his quirky team on their way to Corneria. Once they reach Corneria, things get serious and they must protect General Pepper with their skill, talent and ingenuity.
Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins staff includes Production I.G. (collaborators on Attack on Titan as well as the studio behind Eden of the East , Ghost in the Shell and Blood: The Last Vampire) as well as Studio Wit ( Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, The Empire of Corpses).
Star Fox Zero releases on Wii U on April 22, with the tower defense game Star Fox Guard available both as a download code in the First Print Edition of Star Fox Zero and as a standalone digital download.
We gave Star Fox Zero a mixed review , praising many of its achievements but concluding, “Ultimately, Star Fox Zero is just fine - not bad, not great, but somewhere in between. It tries to change up the formula of previous games with the motion controls and new vehicles but in the end feels so much like Star Fox 64 that it could easily have been a HD remake.”
Star Fox 64 is also now available on the Wii U’s virtual console , in case this nostalgic anime short makes you feel like booting up a trusty throwback.
As for Amiibos that work with Star Fox Zero , only your Falco and Fox Amiibos are supported. Falco lets you deploy a glass cannon Black Arwing, and Fox swaps your team’s Arwings for Super NES versions. Do you plan to pick up Star Fox Zero ? Will you be using your Star Fox Amiibo to help you complete the journey? Let us know in the comments section below.
