Giant Sparrow’s modern masterpiece, What Remains of Edith Finch, will be getting a Switch release this July 4, as revealed by the Japanese Nintendo eShop.

The critically-acclaimed adventure title first launched for the PC and PlayStation 4 back in April 25, 2017, as well as on Xbox One on July 19, 2017. What Remains of Edith Finch received an overwhelming critical response when it released, earning a number of accolades, including a prestigious BAFTA for Best Game 2017, and Best Narrative award for both the 2018 Game Developers Choice Awards and The Game Awards 2017. Check out a trailer below to see a short introduction of What Remains of Edith Finch.

What Remains of Edith Finch is mainly a narrative-based exploration title set from a first-person perspective. Your player character explores the titular Finch house and its surrounding wilderness through a mostly linear series of rooms, various footpaths as well as secret crawlspaces. Much like The Stanley Parable, an expository voice narration from Edith Finch herself guides your character through the house, with her words visually displayed to you as part of the scene itself, drawing your attention.

What Remains of Edith Finch tells the incredibly odd and tragic story of the Finch family line, who bears a perceived curse that causes all but one member of each generation to die in mysterious and unusual ways. Edith Finch is the last in her generation, and the player character carries her journal, which recounts her final journey throughout the Finch ancestral home following her mother’s death and the hasty abandonment of the domicile years ago. Throughout the journey, the player learns of Edith’s own discoveries regarding her relatives and their deaths by having Edith visit their bedrooms, each sealed off and treated as shrines to their memory by each generation’s matriarch.

What Remains of Edith Finch remains one of the most compelling narrative-driven titles ever to be released, and the fact that its Switch release is getting considerable buzz proves that the there is still great interest in how the title will play out as a handheld port.

In any case, What Remains of Edith Finch is now available to play on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with the Switch version set for a July 4 release date.
