Just a few weeks ago, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt finally received the highly anticipated next-gen update, introducing tons of features and content for all fans to enjoy. And once again, the open-world RPG from CD Projekt Red has given the community another new reason to love it. While most of the new stuff really gives the game a boost, one of the features sadly impacted its performance.
The impressive ray tracing feature is without a doubt one of the best inclusions from the next-gen update. Unfortunately, it has significantly affected the overall game performance on most gaming systems. It could even get worse, too, up to the point that the game could no longer be played. Thus, patches must be properly optimized to avoid such an issue.
While CD Projekt Red is working on fixing the issue found in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt update and improving the performance, some very passionate fans just could not wait and decided to take matters into their own hands. Yes, that is right – they decided to improve and fix the ray tracing issue instead of waiting for the studio.
The fix is called the Optimized Raytracing config file, which players can download from Nexus Mods. This brings a couple of tweaks designed for ray-traced global illumination, helping improve performance significantly while minimally impacting overall visuals. Since it is not an official fix, performance still needs improvement as it is not really where it must be. The good thing though is that these tweaks allow players facing the ray tracing issue to finally play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with the next-gen update.
While players continue to wait on the hotfix from CD Projekt Red, they might want to give this community mod a try for now. But, as promised by the studio, the upcoming update would finally fix the ray tracing issue as well as provide better performance and stability on PC and more.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The next-gen update features a host of quality-of-life and gameplay improvements in addition to the new quests and technical enhancement CD Projekt Red added.
