Developer CD Projekt Red recently teased that the Gwent card game could make a return in The Witcher 4 while also announcing that it has recast the voice actor for Ciri.

The news came as the studio earlier this month shared the reveal trailer for The Witcher 4 at The Game Awards 2024. The footage teased Ciri as a fully-fledged Witcher who is going on her own adventure separate from Geralt of Rivia.

The Gwent Card Game

The developers have hinted since then that the Gwent card game could be featured in the latest entry in the franchise.

Game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitrega answered questions regarding The Witcher 4 during a recent interview with Easy Allies.

Neither of the two explicitly confirmed the card game's existence in The Witcher 4 but seemed to have leaned toward the idea. Kalema said that they really enjoyed the card game and are always listening to the community for what players want, according to Game Spot.

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt extensively featured the Gwent card game, and it quickly became very popular among fans of the series. This led CD Projekt Red to release a standalone title, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, to give players what they wanted.

Hachette Boardgames UK and No Loading Games also announced plans earlier this month to release Gwent as a physical tabletop game. It would include a deck of 400 cards as well as a playmat and is expected to arrive in late 2025.

The Witcher 4's Ciri Voice Actor

CD Projekt Red originally announced that it was working on The Witcher 4 back in 2022. The recent reveal trailer showcased Ciri as the main protagonist, but the developer also confirmed that Geralt will make a return to the latest entry in the franchise, Game Rant said.

Adam Badowski also recently revealed that The Witcher 4 will finally explain just how Ciri became a Witcher following the event of The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. The studio also announced that Ciara Berkeley is replacing Jo Wyatt as the female lead voice actor.

The popularity of the Gwent card game is due to its relatively simple mechanics that almost all players can understand quite quickly. Despite this, it still leaves enough room for depth and mastery that make players' gaming experience even more exciting.

Despite the reveal trailer for The Witcher 4 at The Game Awards 2024, there is not much information about what the latest entry in the franchise could include. This is primarily due to the game still being somewhat in its early stages of development, according to Tech Radar.
