Not every rapper can push out mixtapes as fast as Curren$y, but Wiz Khalifa has been keeping up with the Jet Lifer lately. Chances are Wiz will turn up the creative momentum even more following his recent beef with Kanye West, which sparked from the name change of Ye’s album from SWISH to Waves. As far as the feud on Twitter is concerned, Wiz lit a joint and stayed cool as usual. Amber Rose came through and squashed the beef by landing a death blow on Kanye with a simple #FingerInTheBootyAssBitch hashtag.
Wiz Khalifa just released a single called “Bake Sale” feat. Travis Scott and is set to release his self-titled album Khalifa Feb. 5. However, Wiz also has a few projects on the backburner. After releasing Cabin Fever 3 just a month ago, the first project Wiz has on the list following the release of Khalifa should be Rolling Papers 2 .
Confirmed to come sometime in 2016 by Wiz himself on L.A.’s Power 106 in November, the original Rolling Papers was not short of billboard hits.Taylor Gang fans played “On My Level,” “Roll Up,” “Black and Yellow,” “No Sleep” and “Rooftops” on repeat. The project wasn’t shy of features either. Curren$y, Too $hort, Chevy Woods all delivered on the weed-inspired album.
So far, Wiz has released two tracks from Rolling Papers 2 : “Burn Slow” featuring Rae Sremmurd and “No Social Media” featuring Snoop Dogg. The rapper also confirmed on Twitter to expect a collab with The Weeknd.
Taylor Gangers Chevy Woods, Ty Dolla $ign and Juicy J all have verses on Khalifa , but there is one long-time friend of Wiz’s that is missing from that list, Curren$y. The two are supposedly still working on #2009 , a follow up to How Fly . The duo released a track from the mixtape, “Uber Driver” in March, then another called “Weed Nap” in April. Taylor Gang’s website , Curren$y and Wiz all insist the mixtape is coming soon.
The last time Wiz or Curren$y spoke on the mixtape was back in May. “It’s something that we’re working on. We’re still putting the ideas together and just making it a full project. We’re such friends and we’re such stoners, we kind of just wanna give it out. But, then, you know, we’re figuring out the best way to package it and put it together. The music is there, and we always gonna be recording and putting stuff out, so we’re just putting the plan together really,” Wiz Khalifa told MTV news .
During a Periscope chat yesterday talking about his newest album The Carrollton Heist, several viewers asked Curren$y questions about a release date for #2009, but the New Orleans rapper kept quiet. The highly anticipated How Fly Wiz-Spitta collab sequel seems long overdue, but both rappers have released a steady flow of music since so we really can’t complain.
Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y teamed up in November for "Winning" on Canal St. Confidential. Their last official project together was Live Concerpt EP released in 2013.
