Boyd Holbrook, who plays DEA agent Steve Murphy in the hit Netflix series Narcos, will star as the main baddie in Wolverine 3 . Deadline describes his character as a “relentless, calculating and intense head of security for a global enterprise who is set against Jackman’s clawed Wolverine/Logan hero.”
Den of Geek suggests Wolverine 3 could adapt the Old Man Logan story, where Wolverine is the “last surviving X-Man in a dystopian world where he has vowed to never use his claws again.” Wolverine 3 will be Jackman’s last film before retiring the iconic mutant for good. That said, We’d all love to also see Wolverine in X-Men:Apocalypse , due in theaters May 27, but a cameo hasn’t been confirmed.
After Hugh Jackman confirmed he’d pop the claws one last time via Instagram, he explained to ComicBook.com why he decided to stop with Wolverine 3 . “It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And let’s be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it. … I kind of have in my head what we’re going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out.”
Filming for Hugh Jackman’s last stint as Logan begins in May. Patrick Stewart is set to reprise his role as Professor X. After the success of Deadpool , fans are hoping Wolverine will take on an R-rating. James Mangold will direct David James Kelly’s script.
This is a huge year for the X-Men franchise. If rumors are true, New Mutants and X-Force are also in the works. Wolverine 3 hits theaters March 3, 2017.
