Publisher ININ Games and developer Studio Artdink have just unveiled the debut trailer for the newly announced Monster World IV remake Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World. Originally released in 1994 for the Mega Drive, Monster World IV is the sixth and final entry in the Wonder Boy/Monster World series of role-playing and action adventure games.
Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World is set to be a full-fledged remake of the Genesis version of Monster World IV, which was originally developed by Westone Bit Entertainment for Japan. The game follows protagonist Asha in the titular Monster World. Having just become a warrior, Asha is unexpectedly involved in a major event that would mean the extinction or survival of her home kingdom. The kingdom’s invaders have captured the world’s four Spirits (each representing one of the archetypal elements), which forces Queen Purapril to task Asha with saving the spirits. During his journey through the capital Rapadanga, Asha happens upon a mysterious creature called the Pepegaloo, which will accompany Asha through his journey filled with different challenges and obstacles.
Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World is a mix of role-playing, action-adventure, and platforming elements. Players will control Asha across different obstacles by using an array of movement abilities such as gliding, double-jumping, or holding onto Pepelogoo. As for the game’s combat system, slashing and stabbing will be the player’s proverbial ‘bread and butter’ offensive moves. During encounters with enemies, Asha will be able to pick up gold, which can then be used in Radapanga in exchange for stronger gear such as new swords, shields, empowering bangles, and more. Stronger equipment means the chance to face stronger foes as the game goes on.
So, what will Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World offer that is new in terms of content? Studio Artdik has confirmed that it will include 3D cel-shaded style graphics as seen in the trailer, refined gameplay, and more. New game modes and other additional elements have also been planned and, finally, Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World will be the first game in the series to feature voice-overs. This is a huge deal for those diehard fans who are looking to hear Asha’s voice for the first time.
Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World is set to release for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in early 2021.
