Wim Wouters is happy Rebellion was able to pick up where his former studio, GRIN, left off with their game Woolfe.
Wouters recently spoke to Develop about the “very emotional” sale of Woolfe. Rebellion acquired the IP Oct. 21 and released a statement regarding the Kickstarter Rewards that were never sent to backers. Rebellion confirmed all the Kickstarter backers would receive what they paid for out of respect for GRIN and the work they put into Woolfe.
"We're really keen to do the right thing by the Woolfe backers," Rebellion CEO and creative director Jason Kingsley said in a statement, according Gamespot. "Just because we've joined the Woolfe project much further down the road doesn't mean we shouldn't respect the people who made it happen in the first place. If a backer hasn’t received the reward they pledged for, we're going to do our best to get it to them, even if we have to make it ourselves."
Wouters isn’t happy with the way things turned out for GRIN and Woolfe, but is glad Rebellion is thinking out their Kickstarter Backers. Wouters told Develop he’s received nothing but support and understanding from backers, and no longer feels “shame” for not keeping his word to his supporters.
“Although I have found almost all backers are really understanding about our situation and are happy with the game they did receive, I will no longer have to bow my head in shame or guilt when someone approaches me claiming they backed our project,” Wouters told Develop.
Wouters added, “Although I might not be a part of Woolfe's future, I am still very proud of what we actually did manage to accomplish. And maybe it's just a gut feeling, but I really think Red Riding Hood and the story of Woolfe is going to be huge some day. Mark my words.”
