Are you excited to play the pre-patch update before World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic release in June? If so, you may have to wait a bit longer because the maintenance was extended indefinitely.
The TBC expansion is going to have a major overhaul and will be available in the first week of June. First released in 2007, fans of the game can expect a lot of new changes in the remastered edition.
To prepare players for what’s to come, Blizzard Entertainment announced the release of a pre-patch update. This will allow you to level your characters up just in time before TBC remastered launches.
The server was taken down for maintenance earlier today as part of the process. But, just when everyone thought that the entire process was smooth-sailing, Blizzard community manager Randy "Kaivax" Jordan wrote in a post stating that they’ve hit a snag. Hence, the update's release had to be delayed.
Why the Maintenance Took Longer Than Expected
Kaivax detailed why the maintenance took longer than expected. For those of you who did not know, the pre-patch was supposed to be available today, May 18, on the classic server. Apparently, there is an issue regarding one portion of the process.
He stated that the live operations team has taken steps to handle the situation. Some are responsible for copying/pasting the data and others are responsible for checking the data’s integrity. Because there is so much information to be handled and the developers do not want anything to go wrong, they’d have to repeat some processes.
The part where they had the biggest problem was handling all player mail. You see, there was this unfortunate issue that needed the restoration of some data to prevent the loss of items. This particular process requires more time due to the enormous data, which must be restored.
He ended by apologizing to the community for the unexpected delay but assured players that Azeroth is going to be back in a few hours.
People who have commented on the post mostly had positive replies, while some do expect some compensation for waiting.
How do you feel about the delay?
