When Worms was first released back in 1995, it's likely nobody though that it would last the way it has. From a game that started solely for the PC, there are now versions for the different consoles like PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. There are now even versions for mobile devices.
Since it was launched on November 17, 1995, there have been more than 10 Worms games and a number of different spin-offs. Overall at least 75 million copies of the various Worms games have been sold.
Worms was originally produced by creator Andy Davidson and the franchise has not only managed to release new games, but even offered new concepts and gameplay. Worms Rumble, the latest version, is set to be launched on December 1 for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and the PC.
In celebration of this new milestone, the Team17 Store is offering a wide range of Worms games at discounted rates until November 24. There are games that offer as much as 80% off, and curated bundles that offer even more. Team17 is also handing out 10% discount codes on its social media channels.
So what else is happening? Well, today the official Twitch channel for Team17, which you can visit here, is having a 13-hour live stream. It’s going to have some special guests that are going to play different Worms games from over the past 25 years. That should be fun and a bit nostalgic, so don’t forget to catch it.
In a press statement, Team17 Chief Executive Officer Debbie Bestwick MBE revealed that Worms has always been at the heart of the team and that “years into a successful period as a games publishing label, the battling critters remain an important part of our DNA.” The games have been loved by players of all ages for more than two decades. She went on to say that as she watched how the series has managed to “develop over the years has been a wonderful journey to share with one of the most passionate and vocal communities in gaming.”
In addition to today’s celebration, three iconic installments of the franchinse are going to be launched to the Evercade console platform in 2021. These are Worms, Worms Armageddon, and Worms Blast. A special set of pin badges that feature Worms throughout the ages are also going to be made available soon for pre-order.
