Late last night, presumably to hide their shame, the official Disney Animation Twitter account revealed a motion logo for (get ready), Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2. Yep, it says Ralph twice, the subtitle is first, and it references Kim Kardashian’s infamous ‘Break the Internet’ photoshoot for Paper from 2014, i.e., the one with her balancing a champagne saucer on her ass.
Speaking of the internet, one of the great things about it is that you can always find an echo chamber for dumb stuff that gets you all fired up. In other words: we’re not the only ones scratching our heads about this title.
We've got nothing against Kim Kardashian's lovely bottom in particular; it's indisputably a spectacular feat of human derierre achievement. But calling the follow-up to such a charming film Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 is nothing other than groan-worthy. Woof.
Collider reports the studio has also provided some new details about the upcoming sequel. Co-director Rich Moore said, “To take these characters we love and have them enter the enormous world of the internet has given us so much to explore… Our production team has been hard at work designing a world that takes something we all think we know – the internet – but shows it in a whole new, imaginative way.”
Honestly, we’re bummed to hear the sequel’s moving away somewhat from the world of video games. Sure, some of the characters will carry over, but there were so many nimble, clever references to decades of arcade and console classics in the original Wreck-It Ralph, and plenty more they could do with the concept. And frankly, we could all do with a hell of a lot more skepticism toward our corporate overlords like Facebook and Google, instead of making them seem more cuddly and colorful.
Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 hits the big screen on March 9, 2018.
