Head of Xbox Phil Spencer believes cross-buy and cross-save is a great next step for the gaming industry. The news comes shortly after Quantum Break announced anyone who pre-ordered the digital version of Quantum Break for Xbox One will receive a free copy for the Window 10 edition.
Quantum Break will allow Xbox One and PC users to access saves from the same file no matter what platform they choose to play. This is essentially called a “cross-save” and is meant to encourage gamers to play on multiple platforms. Spencer was asked on Twitter if he expects to see third party games on cross-buy lists or if the feature will solely be available for Microsoft titles.
Spencer responded, “We'll make it a platform feature. We think it's good for gamers.”
While Spencer approves of the cross-buy feature, other developers might not follow Microsoft’s lead. Unfortunately, cross-buy and cross-save also doesn’t translate to cross-platform play just yet. Xbox One and PC users will only be able to play with others using the same platform.
Quantum Break will be released on Xbox One and PC April 5.
