Microsoft wants to improve its gaming experiences for players, and its latest move is to help in the preservation efforts of old and classic games. However, according to Xbox, the company wants to make use of artificial intelligence to do so this.

They have already been several negative reactions to Microsoft and Xbox's latest plans, particularly as players are not on board with the idea of using AI to preserve classic games, claiming that it will not feel like the original thing.

Xbox Wants to Use AI to Preserve Classic Games

The latest blog post from Xbox revealed their grand idea to expand more on their preservation efforts for old and classic games that are still in their original format, especially as it is getting more and more difficult to play them in today's age.

While this is a good initiative at first glance, a part of Xbox's plans to preserve the classic games is by using generative AI.

Microsoft introduced their plans to bring a "Muse" to modern gaming, and this is a generative AI model that helps in creating a real-time playable AI model that the company trained on first-party games.

However, the end goal for the company is to help them revive nostalgic games to "faster creative ideation," and would help in bringing back these old titles that may have already been forgotten or left behind.

According to Xbox Corporate Vice President of Gaming AI, Fatima Kardar, "Today, countless classic games tied to aging hardware are no longer playable by most people. Thanks to this breakthrough, we are exploring the potential for Muse to take older back catalog games from our studios and optimize them for any device."

Fans Hate Xbox's AI Idea For Games Preservation

Despite this massive effort and plans by Microsoft's Xbox for the future of game preservation, many fans disapprove of their idea of using generative AI for the remastering of old games.

Users have expressed their sentiments on social media, with one saying that the company would ruin the design, looks, and experiences of these classic titles instead, calling it the "worst solution" for the game preservation efforts.

Another user claimed that using artificial intelligence for the preservation of games would essentially rid them of their status as a "classic," with this use of modern technology for its remaster would defeat the purpose.

The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Gaming

AI has long been used in games, but that is the "traditional AI" that developers are talking about, and not the modern and highly powerful generative AI that can create content out of scratch.

Traditional AI has long been used in games like for NPC development, world building, and more, with the likes of Nintendo claiming that they are using AI for their titles.
