One of the best strategy games to emerge in 2016 just got better.
Long War 2, the follow-up to one of the most popular XCOM mods of all time, is now available for download from the Steam Workshop. It emerged less than 24 hours after 2K published a basic outline of its features and has already become one of the most popular XCOM 2 mods listed on Steam. Of course, if you’re somehow coming to Long War for the first time, it’s also making XCOM 2 much more difficult than it was the last time players sat down with the game.
As we learned earlier this week, Long War 2 makes substantial changes to the core XCOM 2 experience. Players will have more to do on a regional level, with recruiting and research efforts now tied to specific zones. Such micro-management tends to get pretty complicated (and time consuming) as you make contact with each new section of the globe. There’s alo a new brain driving ADVENT, which will also tailor its organizational efforts to each region, and new ways for players to take back the planet from the alien forces occupying Earth. Long War 2 even changes the way players recruit new soldiers for the Resistance.
For more on Long War 2, check out the blog post 2K published earlier this week and/or check out the LW2 listing in the Steam Workshop for more information on the sprawling XCOM 2 mod. There’s also a new gameplay video, courtesy of the XCOM YouTube channel, if you’d prefer to see the new mod in action:
XCOM 2 is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
