The sequel to Yo-Kai Watch is set to release this September and the Nintendo 3DS Direct showed some new gameplay footage and revealed some story elements that fans of the franchise should be excited about.
It also revealed what would set the two versions, Fleshy Souls and Bony Spirits, apart.
First off, Yo-Kai Watch 2’s story takes players to the past where they will have to choose a side and take part in a centuries-old war between two rival factions.
The Bony Spirits faction leader is Arachnus who harbors a “spidery secret.” Fleshy Souls is led by Toadal Dude, who takes after a frog.
You’ll also see the origin of the Yo-kai Watch, the Yo-kai Watch Model Zero will be used in this game and give players two new tactics in battle. If an enemy is loafing or inspirited, you can poke the bottom screen to earn bonuses in battle and possible get prizes.
Also, if you fill the soul meter of a Yo-kai and the adjacent Yo-kai you’ll unleash powerful M skills.
Version Exclusives for Yo-Kai Watch 2 include the ability to befriend three exclusive Yo-kai, some fans the first game will recognize.
But don’t worry, you can trade Yo-kai medals between versions to complete your collection.
Physical purchases of both Yo-Kai Watch 2 will include physical Yo-kai medals that unlock new Soultimate attacks for Jibanyan. Digital versions give players a chance to befriend Robonyan F or Sailornyan.
If you want to try the game yourself, a demo will be available in the Nintendo eShop mid September before the release Sept. 30.
