Studio NIS America just released a demo for Ys X Nordics that is now available on Steam and can be accessed by PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch players.
The release of the game's demo coincides with Steam's Next Fest event. Similar to demos for other NIS America games, progress in the Ys X Nordics demo will not carry over to the full game when it launches on Oct. 25, 2024.
Ys X Nordics Demo Out Now
The demo will have players taking control of their character well after the introduction. This lets you get a solid understanding of what you can expect to see when Ys X Nordics launches in full later this month.
It also lets players experience a big part of what sets Ys X Nordics apart from previous titles that feature protagonist, Adol Christin. In this game, it is just him and a single ally Karja going through their adventure, according to Sports Illustrated.
Developer Nihon Falcom also reimagined the Ys franchise's combat system around the concept of cooperation.
This is where Adol and Karja will each have different strengths. If players properly strategize, they can perform powerful attacks that can take out even the strongest foes.
Players will also take control of a ship for one of Ys X Nordic's many sea exploration segments. Here, Adol and his crew of devoted followers will fight against ships that are being commandeered by undead forces known as the Griegr.
These monstrous creatures are terrifying enemies that can only be killed by Mana wielders such as Adol. Falcom has focused more on the story of the Ys games since the seventh entry in the series, WCCFTech said.
An Immersive New Story
The story in Ys X Nordics takes place roughly a month after the events of Adol's quests in Esteria and the floating island of Ys from the first two games. Here the protagonist is still a 17-year-old fresh-faced adventurer traveling to Celceta.
The Ys games are rarely known for their deep narrative but Ys X Nordics takes this up a notch.
The story in the upcoming game is easily considered one of the best in the franchise. It thrives by focusing on a compelling bond between Adol and Karja as they journey throughout the world.
The two leads have a naturally growing relationship that leans more on a sibling bond instead of a romantic attraction. This makes it a refreshing take on the majority of paths that many games take, according to Noisy Pixel.
