Masked Beast Des Gardius has always been one of my favorite monsters in all of Yu-Gi-Oh! ever since Yugi and Kaiba faced off against Umbra and Lumis in the Battle City Tournament. Now the card is available in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links after the Yami Marik event.
This powerful monster card comes at a whopping 3300 attack, which puts it over popular cards like the Blue-Eyes White Dragon. However, it’s not easy to summon. The Masked Beast Des Gardius needs two monsters, with one of them having to be either Melchid the Four Faced Beast or The Grand Tiki Elder, two normal fiend-type monsters with 1500 attack.
Duelists will need to devise strategies to get one of those monsters on the field and keep it there until you draw and summon Des Gardius, which is easier said than done. However, I’ve come up with a deck based on Masked Beast Des Gardius and another Fiend monster, Dark Necrofear that is very fun to play.
To be honest, don’t expect this deck to take off and get you to the ranks of King of Games like some other decks , but if you’re like me and you want to play unique and unconventional decks, take a look at my proposed Masked Beast deck below.
One thing to note is that this is a fairly low-budget deck. Cards like Sphere Kuriboh, Enemy Controller and Super Rush Headlong would work great in this deck, but if you don’t have those, the traps and spells found in the above deck can work well too.
SPELLS/TRAPS
Tribute to the Doomed is a great card to get rid of strong monsters while also feeding your graveyard with Fiends to summon Dark Necrofear. I included Heart of the Underdog to help with this deck’s drawing power because it’s fairly weak. With so many normal monsters you can start to thin your deck to get to your Dark Necrofear or Masked Beast Des Gardius while filling up your hand to cover the cost of Tribute to the Doomed.
I added Soul Resurrection to get Melchid or Tiki from the graveyard and onto your field if you need the two tributes for Des Gardius.
Curse of Anubis, A Feint Plan and Mask of Weakness are traps used to keep your monsters alive while you wait to Des Gardius.
ESSENTIAL MONSTERS
Doomdog Octhros is essential to this deck and can be found in the Card Trader. I run two, but you can easily run three if you want to get to Dark Necrofear or Masked Beast Des Gardius faster.
An example of a perfect play using all three cards would would be to have Melchid/Tiki on the field, then summon Octhros from your hand. Tribute both to summon Des Gardius and use Octhros’ ability to search for Necrofear.
You’ll send two Fiends to the graveyard for the tribute so you may already have the three Fiends needed to special summon Dark Necrofear, giving you a 3300 and 2200 attack point monsters.
Again, this deck is for casual fun and has a lot of weaknesses, namely the aforementioned draw power and weak monsters. However, in Duel Links you only have room for three spell/trap cards, so keeping at least one slot open for Dark Necrofear’s ability or Mask of Remnants to activate is crucial.
I use Yami Yugi’s Power of Dark ability to give Melchid and Tiki (and the rest of your Fiends) a much needed boost in attack. However, Fiends and Spellcasters are common right now in PVP, so be wary that your field spell will also power up your opponent’s monsters.
