Developer Motorsport Games recently sold the NASCAR license to iRacing, which will result in all titles in the franchise being delisted from digital storefronts next month.
The situation comes as NASCAR 25 is set to come out on all consoles and PC sometime next year. The latest development will affect roughly 15 games in the series, the majority of which are titles on console.
NASCAR Games to be Delisted
Ahead of the games being delisted from digital storefronts, it was announced that they will undergo a discount in the next month. This is so that fans of the franchise can buy the titles that they are missing or want.
Following the time that the games are delisted from digital storefronts, you can still play the NASCAR games that you already own. A social media post reveals that the exact date for the delisting is Dec. 31, 2024.
This will affect both the games and their DLC which will all be no longer available for purchase on all digital storefronts. The post noted that these include NASCAR Heat, NASCAR Rivals, NASCAR Ignition, according to the Video Games Chronicles.
The developer also urged fans to look out for various platform promotions next month if they want to complete their NACAR console game collection. It also went on to thank fans of the franchise for their enthusiasm and support over the years.
Other titles in the franchise that will also be affected by the latest development include SEGA Genesis Classics, Nintendo Everything said.
A New License Owner
Motorsport Games has been the developer and publisher of several games in the NASCAR franchise since 2018 when it first obtained the license. The studio has since faced both success and failure with the number of releases it has put out over the years.
It also faced controversy last year when an employee threatened to leak source code due to disputes over wages. The most recent entry in the franchise is NASCAR Heat. It is one of the more popular titles in the series. It currently has a Very Positive rating on Steam.
Despite the announcement, it was unclear whether or not games in the Forza Motorsport NASCAR collaboration will be affected by the delisting.
Another title that is currently in limbo is NASCAR Arcade Rush. This is a 2023 game that Motorsport Games did not have a hand in.
The majority of games in the NASCAR franchise are currently available for a discounted price. The current notable titles include NASCAR Heat 5, which is right now available for only $3.74 on Steam, according to Game Rant.
