The remake of the first Alone in the Dark game has officially been confirmed. The new game, also named Alone in the Dark, was announced at THQ Nordic 2022 stream, but it is not a one-to-one remake.
It will feature a new original story by Mikael Hedberg, who previously worked on SOMA and Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The developer has called the game more of a re-imagination than a remake. You can watch the reveal trailer below.
Rumors and Leaks
The game's existence was leaked a few days before the official announcement. A reputable leaker, The Snitch, hinted at the game via a tweet. Another leaker, @AestheticGamer1, posted several screenshots along with the description of the game that was later proven accurate.
About the Game
Alone in the Dark is being developed by Pieces Interactive, owned by the publisher of the game THQ Nordic. The publisher purchased the rights of the franchise from Atari in 2018.
Thankfully, the remake won’t be exclusive to any single platform, as it has already been confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The remake will take place in the Deep South during the 1920s. There will be two playable characters; Emily Hartwood, the niece of the missing uncle, and the private investigator Edward Carnby. You will get different cutscenes and dialogues depending on your choices.
Even though the game will feature many characters and locations from the original trilogy, the developer assures that there’s no need to play previous games to enjoy the remake. The developer also claims that all enemies in the game are new. However, some of the monsters from previous games will be acknowledged.
Although the developer didn’t provide any release window, the Steam page is already up and running and you can now add the title to your wishlist. I am speculating that the game will arrive next year, but what about you? When do you think the game is coming?
