The AMC adaptation of Garth Ennis’ Preacher has found its Odin Quincannon . The meat baron of Salvation, Texas will be played by none other than Jackie Earle Haley in the upcoming Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg adaptation of the infamous 90s Vertigo comic.
Odin Quincannon first appears in issue #42 of Preacher, but it looks like the AMC adaptation plans on featuring the series villain far earlier in its telling. Spoilers about the plot of Preacher and Odin Quincannon follow.
Preacher follows Jesse Custer, his girlfriend Tulip, and Irish vampire Cassidy as they chase God across the American southwest, hoping to hold the supreme deity to account for his disastrous management of the cosmos. Amongst the numerous villains attempting to thwart them are an ancient papal cult with an inbred Christ, an undead gunslinger who God canonized The Saint of Killers, and Arseface, a young man who blew his own face off with a shotgun and wants vengeance for that one time Jesse forced Arseface’s Dad to cut off his own penis and shove it up his own ass.
AMC ‘Preacher’ Trailer
But O din Quincannon may be the worst of them all.
While much of Preacher is taken up with Custer’s cosmic quest after he’s empowered with the voice of god, he does take a mid-series break in Salvation, Texas, where he encounters local despot Odin Quincannon.
Not only is Quincannon a loathsome, power-mad individual and a member of the KKK, but he has also a dark secret hidden on the grounds of his meat processing plant. Quincannon’s one true love is a giant, naked woman made of meat.
I wouldn’t recommend searching Google Images for the big reveal . There are things in Preacher that you can’t unsee.
Jackie Earle Haley has previously played famous creeps like Freddie Krueger and Watchmen ’s Rorschach, making him the perfect pick for Odin Quincannon.
AMC has yet to announce a release date for Preacher , though the show will premiere in 2016.
