Apex Legends announced the upcoming regional beta tests for its mobile version. While this is definitely a new version, players are assured that it remains true to the original. In particular, Apex Legends Mobile has been designed to work for touchscreens along with streamlined controls and optimizations.
In a post, Apex Legends Game Director Chad Grenier revealed that the upcoming beta is indeed a big moment for them. He added that they hope to change the mobile platform the way the original Apex Legends changed the battle royale genre.
Grenier shared that the first of the regional beta tests are expected to begin sometime in spring 2021. However, the tests are initially available on Android devices. For regions, you’ll probably have to wait if you’re in North America because the first beta tests are limited to India and the Philippines. This is not a surprise since both regions are among many with very high mobile game usage.
As testing continues and sizes of tests expand, Grenier said that they will add new regions and eventually offer iOS support. He added that when they’re ready to accept more testers, they’ll be launching a page where those interested can pre-register for the game and sign up for news.
Grenier went on to say that since Apex Legends Mobile is being developed specifically for mobile, there won’t be any crossplay with other platforms. That means it’s similar to what Riot Games did to League of Legends: Wild Rift.
Apex Legends Mobile is to be released as a free-to-play game with Grenier guaranteeing no paid items that give players advantages when it comes to gameplay. With no crossplay, it means mobile versions are going to have their own Battle Pass, collectible cosmetics, and even unlockables, which are likely more unique than those on other platforms.
With the team working on the mobile version, what’s going to happen on the PC and console versions? Several things are coming and Apex Legends is set to introduce a new Legend and you can read more about it here.
