One of the most popular and prolific retro handheld manufacturers, Anbernic, has confirmed that it is now halting the shipments of its products to the United States amidst the massive tariffs by President Donald Trump.
Anbernic has proven over the years that it can take the retro gaming experience to the next level with modern features to enjoy, but it now has to pause in its tracks when it comes to US shipments due to the imposed tariffs against China.
Anbernic Stops Shipments to the United States
In a new update posted on Anbernic's website, the company has officially confirmed that it is now stopping the shipments of orders from China to the United States. The company says that it is suspending all orders from China to the US effective immediately, but it has not given a timeline to when it will possibly return to normal operations.
Previously, users, including those in the United States, were given the option to choose which warehouse to ship their device from to avoid additional customs fees or extra costs. This helped in allowing customers to also get the chance to secure a console or device despite one warehouse being out of stock of a specific item.
According to Anbernic, customers may still purchase their retro gaming handhelds and other consoles directly from US warehouses, but these would only be available until supplies last. Based on their statement, Anbernic would no longer re-supply or ship more stocks to their US warehouses for the time being, particularly as the China tariffs are still in effect from the Trump administration.
Retro Handhelds Bite the Dust Due to Trump
Anbernic's retro handhelds have been available in the US for quite some time now, but it was not until President Trump imposed the tariffs on all imported goods that this setup changed for the company and its customers. While there is a temporary pause in the implementation of Trump's tariffs, this does not apply to China.
Despite the specific exemptions for electronic devices, which Anbernic also falls into, its main sourcing from China affects its operations in the United States, hence the suspension of its shipping to the country.
To date, Anbernic is still one of the most popular manufacturers and suppliers of retro handheld gaming devices, which the company have modernized to fit present standards while still delivering classic experiences for users.
Anbernic is only one of the many that have already opted to stop their imports to the United States, following the likes of Razer.
