San Diego Comic Con begins today, but we’ll have to wait until Saturday for any big DC TV reveals. However, Arrow showrunner Wendy Mericle recently spoke with TV Guide magazine for their special Comic-Con issue and confirmed we’ll find out what Oliver promised to Black Canary before she died. The producer also thinks the creative team’s decision to kill off the Black Canary so early will make more sense as Season 5 progresses.

“I can say with confidence that in Season 5 our decision will make more sense--even to the fans who were vehemently opposed to it.”

When asked if there’s a possibility we could see Black Canary over on Legends of Tomorrow , Marc Guggenheim had a very cryptic response. “No, that conflicts with other plans we have.”

Some fans appear to be taking that statement way too seriously. I’m pretty sure that just means that it would conflict with the plan of the Laurel Lance we know staying dead, at least in the live-action universe. Katie Cassidy will return to voice Black Canary on the CW’s animated series, Vixen, alongside Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin as Arrow and The Flash, and a few other Legends characters.

Arrow Season 5 kicks off Oct. 5 on The CW.
