While most fans are enjoying Assassin's Creed Valhalla, the latest entry in the popular Assassin's Creed franchise, the same cannot be said for a small group of players. A few days ago, reports started to flood in on the Ubisoft forum and the Assassin's Creed Valhalla subreddit regarding corrupted saves.
As soon as the save game corruption reports started to appear online, Ubisoft addressed the complaints by saying that the developer knows about the issue and it is working on a fix. Ubisoft has now confirmed that it is actively working on a fix for the issue, which should be available in the next few weeks. Assassin's Creed Valhalla isn't the only Ubisoft game that is suffering from save game corruption, as the recently released Watch Dogs: Legion has been causing the same issue. Unfortunately, in this case the developer has been tightlipped about save game corruption in Watch Dogs: Legion.
Even I noticed that some of my save games in Assassin's Creed Valhalla were displaying "data corrupt!" error messages, preventing save game loading. Fortunately, the corrupted save files were associated with the cloud, and all of my local saves were unharmed. So, I have made it a practice to always manually save before quitting. It's something to consider if you find yourself playing Valhalla before the fix is pushed live.
Moreover, if you're playing on PC, you can easily backup your saves by heading to your C: drive > Program Files (x86) > Ubisoft > Ubisoft Game Launcher > Savegames > (a random number folder) and backup the folder called 13504.
Since Assassin's Creed Valhalla is quite a lengthy game, corrupted saves could mean the loss of hours of progress. But, it's good to know that Ubisoft is currently working on a fix for the issue. In the meantime, you can try manually saving your game across multiple save slots and backing up your saves to minimize the odds of having your save corrupted.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia.
