We finally have a launch date for the PS4 and Xbox One ports of The Banner Saga 2 . And it looks like console owners won’t have to wait nearly as long for this year’s Banner Saga sequel as they were forced to wait for the original after it debuted back in 2014.
News of The Banner Saga 2 console release date comes via a variety of sources. While many fans were undoubtedly made aware of the news via the series’ Twitter account , Versus Evil and Stoic Studios also published a press release featuring statements from the former’s general manager, Steve Escalante, and the latter’s technical director, John Watson. Either way, the message is the same: The Banner Saga 2 heads to PS4 and Xbox One on July 26.
“We are happy that we were able to create a development schedule where the console version of Banner Saga 2 could come out shortly after the PC version,” said Watson. “Although our team size dictated what we could do with the first release, we knew that a two year wait for the sequel was just not acceptable, so we worked extremely hard to ensure that console gamers could continue their journey in a timely fashion.”
Watson says Stoic wants to release The Banner Saga 3 on PC and consoles simultaneously but the technical director stopped short of outright promising a multi-platform debut. Unfortunately, there’s still no word on whether or not The Banner Saga 2 will ever be released on the PS Vita. Fans of Sony’s handheld gaming device are still waiting to get their hands on the original Banner Saga , which Sony stepped in to protect from cancellation, but we have to assume both companies are waiting to see how the Vita port performs before committing to a second.
