Warner Bros. recently released an interesting cut scene from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice featuring Lex Luthor. Many assume it’s connected to another alien planet in the DC Universe, and they’re on the right track.
[Warning: the article contain Batman vs. Superman spoilers]
At the end of the movie, Bruce Wayne talks to Diana Prince. Bruce asks Diana for help finding the other humans, because he has a feeling the fighting has only begun. It pretty obvious the film was a setup for the Justice League, so you don’t give it too much thought when you leave the theater.
Now, watch the deleted scene featuring Lex. In theaters, we didn’t get to see how Lex was captured in the film. There’s a brief encounter between Lex and Batman at the end, but you don’t know if it’s real or imagined. Lex starts rambling about something, and it’s easy to write him off as crazy. But Lex knows something.
The deleted scene features him talking to what people assume to be the planet Apokolips. Why is Apokolips important? Because that’s where Darkseid rules. There were many rumors prior to the Batman vs. Superman release about the film teasing Darkseid . Long story short, Darkseid’s appearance in the comics leads to the superheroes banding together as the Justice League. He’s a ruthless villain who wants to enslave the universe to bow to his will.
Before you get excited, the creature you see in the deleted scene isn’t Darkseid. Putting whatever it is aside, the alien talks to Lex while holding these weird boxes. CinemaBlend points out that those could be Mother Boxes, which allow the creature to travel between dimensions. The alien disappeared way before Lex was cornered by armed forces, so it’s possible he was talking to a representative for Darkseid.
This leads us to believe Batman probably did visit Lex in jail and believed the nonsense he was going on about, which made his conversation with Wonder Woman a little more appropriate. The New Gods are coming after all, right?
