After much teasing and almost five years since its initial announcement, PlatinumGames and Nintendo finally announced the Bayonetta 3 release date, with the Umbra Witch making her way back to Nintendo Switch on October 28. The game is now up for pre-orders on the official Nintendo site, and to commemorate the announcement, the publisher also shared a brand-new action-packed trailer which you can check out below.
The three-and-a-half-minute trailer sets up a slice of the story for hardcore Bayonetta fans, as the Umbra Witch finds herself once again on a mission to save the world. This time, it’s revealed that she will be facing the Homunculi, man-made monstrosities hellbent on destruction. There’s also quite a bit of new gameplay mechanics introduced, including one seemingly inspired by Capcom’s other hack-and-slash hit title, Devil May Cry V.
Bayonetta 3 will feature not just one Bayonetta, but multiple of the Witches, each with their own powers and abilities. It seems that the player will be able to play through different instances of Bayonetta depending on the level, but that’s not all, as a new playable character was also introduced in the trailer. Calling herself Viola, this trainee Witch will accompany Bayonetta through her journey to eradicate the Homunculi.
While pre-orders for the Standard Edition of Bayonetta 3 are now up on the Nintendo Store for $59.99 as of today, the publisher also revealed a few details on another upcoming special release for the game. Called the Trinity Masquerade Edition, this one will be made available via select retailers as well as the Nintendo Store. It will include the following:
- Bayonetta 3 game
- Full-color 200-page art book featuring the beauties and beasts of Bayonetta 3
- Three reversible game cases for Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2, and Bayonetta 3, which form a panoramic artwork
Pre-order details for the Trinity Masquerade Edition will be announced at a later date. That said, Nintendo did announce a separate Bayonetta physical release heading to the Nintendo Store on September 30, something worth noting if you’re looking to complete the collection before Bayonetta 3 arrives this October.
