Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker has released the episode rundown for the show’s upcoming season on Netflix and it looks good. Black Mirror Season 3 will consist of six episodes, true to the show’s original vignette format.
Some of the episode titles include “Nosedive,” about a woman who needs to rate her social interactions, “San Junipero,” which is Black Mirror ’s version of a coming of age story, and the crime drama-inspired “Hated in the Nation.” Brooker recently gave Entertainment Weekly an exclusive look of each episode sans any spoilers. The show creator promised fans there will an episode in Black Mirror Season 3 very much inspired by “The National Anthem.”
“There have been a couple previous tales set in present day without any sci-fi elements,” Brooker told EW . “[‘Shut Up and Dance’ is about a] withdrawn 19-year-old (Alex Lawther) stumbles headlong into an online trap and is quickly forced into an uneasy alliance with shifty man (Jerome Flynn), leaving both at the mercy of persons unknown,” he added, describing the episode as “a kitchen sink nightmarish thriller.”
Black Mirror Season 3 will also include several familiar faces such as Game of Thrones actor Jerome Flynn, Bryce Dallas Howard and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
For those unfamiliar with Black Mirror , the show takes a look at the way technology has changed society for better or worse. Each episode has a theme that brings up deep questions about morality in viewers. For example, Black Mirror ’s debut episode, “The National Anthem,” saw a kidnapper force a politician to have sex with a pig on-air. The kidnapper was able to use social media to manipulate the politician into doing his bidding. The big twist was the kidnapper let go of his captive 30 minutes before the live stream, but the world was too busy watching the broadcast for anyone to notice.
