Black Myth: Wukong, a soulslike game that set Steam records just a few hours after launch, is aiming to launch a DLC to capitalize on its popularity among players.

The development was revealed during a recent interview between Bloomberg and Hero Games co-founder Daniel Wu. Hero Games is the largest external shareholder in the game's developers, Game Science.

But for now, it remains a mystery just what the expected DLC will consist of and when it is planned to be released. However, the interview made reference to FromSoftware's Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

The latter was able to demonstrate just how a timely and substantial expansion can "spur a fresh flurry of sales for the original."

This hasn't stopped some fans from speculating what could be seen in Black Myth: Wukong's content expansion, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.

These could include new bosses for players to fight, which is probably the most expected addition coming with the DLC. Others also think that Game Science will be adding more meditation spots or flesh out the setting in less combative or progression ways.

Other than talks about Black Myth: Wukong's DLC, Bloomberg was also able to talk about the backstory of both companies. These include talks about a much-publicized 2017 meeting between Wu and Apple's Tim Cook as well as Game Science's "four failures in a row."

The interview comes as Black Myth: Wukong was able to sell a staggering 18 million copies across PC via Steam and PlayStation 5 in just two weeks. The game has made more than $700 million in revenue so far due to its success, said IGN.

Game Science's Success

The soulslike game released by Game Science was able to sell a lot of copies worldwide. This made players compare it to other popular titles, like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. These games are famous for their fast-selling records in the industry.

Niko Partner's director of research, Daniel Ahmad, said that the $700 million sales figure was from August 30, 2024.

He also said that Black Myth: Wukong has now reached the $800 million mark. This is a superb performance as the developer only had a budget of $70 million over its six years of work.

Wu noted that the planned expansion for Black Myth: Wukong will not take another six years to come out for players to enjoy. He added that the additional content will still be based on Chinese mythology, according to DigitalTrends.
