UPDATE: In a FAQ on the publisher's website, Activision says Awakening will be the only Black Ops 3 DLC released on the PlayStation 3.
Just when it looked like last-gen consoles would never get any Black Ops 3 DLC, Activision and Treyarch confirmed plans to release the game’s first batch of multiplayer content on PlayStation 3.
The new comes courtesy of the Activision Games Blog, one of the many in-house publications to be launched by game publishers in recent years, where communications manager Scott Lowe confirmed the Black Ops 3 Awakening DLC will head to PS3 on April 5. The game’s first round of downloadable content includes four new multiplayer maps for Black Ops 3. The DLC also features a new Zombies map, Der Eisendrache, set in an Austrian castle during World War II.
And that’s not even the end of the good news!
While the four maps featured in the Awakening DLC obviously won’t look as detailed as their current-gen counterparts, that appears to be the only difference between the PS3 and PS4 versions of the content. The upcoming PS3 debut of the Awakening DLC also suggests we could see additional Black Ops 3 content released on last-gen consoles later in the year.
In addition to confirming the PS3 release of the Awakening DLC, Activision and Treyarch say they'll unveil the game’s next round of Black Ops 3 DLC on March 31. Details on the game’s next add-on remain scarce at this time, leaving us uncertain of what to expect, but the introduction of a new Zombies scenario and a handful of new multiplayer maps are all but certain. It’s not clear where exactly Treyarch plans to make its announcement; however, it’s probably safe to assume we’ll see a new Black Ops 3 DLC trailer hit YouTube sometime on Thursday.
