It seems that fans of Blizzard Entertainment will have to wait a while before they can attend and enjoy another live Blizzcon event.

The company recently announced that there will be no in-person Blizzcon event this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The announcement was made by Blizzcon executive producer Saralyn Smith. The decision to cancel the company’s huge annual affair is in line with California’s guidelines regarding in-person gatherings.

Despite knowing how fans are eager to meet people from all over the world to discuss the company’s games, Smith says that making such an event possible is a complex matter.

Blizzcon requires months of preparation not only for the company but also for entertainers, production partners, artists, esports pros, and collaborators, among many others.

She added that ongoing complexities and uncertainties brought by the pandemic have hindered the company from doing what needs to be done to make the event happen. Even if they manage to push through, it may not be held in November as originally planned.

Although an in-person Blizzcon event is impossible at this point, it doesn’t mean that fans do not have anything to hope for this year.

Smith said that the company is thinking about doing an online show similar to the event they did earlier in the year. She said: “...in the meantime, we’re planning a global event for the early part of next year, combining an online show along the lines of our recent BlizzConline with smaller in-person gatherings.”

The company is still in the process of ironing things out but Smith says that she will reveal more plans as they come along. Who knows, maybe fans can actually attend a live event in early 2022.

Blizzcon is always held every year because it is the perfect time for the company to reveal what’s in store for fans.

Last February, BlizzConOnline was held as a two-day affair, which revealed information about Overwatch 2, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic, and Hearthstone’s first expansion Forged in the Barrens.

What do you think about the company’s decision not to have an in-person Blizzcon this year?
