When we last left off the monthly Boruto manga, Boruto seemingly won his first two fights during the Chunin Exams but as his father Naruto would learn, he was using a new device that allows ninja to use any jutsu with no effort.
Seeing this, Naruto interrupted Boruto’s celebration to reveal the device on his arm for all the participants to see.
What will Naruto do with Boruto? Let’s find out in Chapter 5 of the Boruto manga.
SPOILER ALERT! The following will spoil the events of the Boruto manga, if you haven’t read it or don’t want to know what happens turn back now.
The issue starts with Naruto holding Boruto’s arm. Naruto says that ninja technology was banned from this exam and it doesn’t utilize one’s own chakra, which goes against the entire point of the Chunin Exams.
Naruto turns to Rock Lee to tell him that Boruto has been disqualified and Shikadai will move on.
The announcement is made, leaving everyone in the arena is shocked and disappointed in the Hokage’s son. Naruto then proceeds to take Boruto’s headband away, and says he is not qualified to be a ninja.
Naruto says to his son that he will talk to him later, but exams are ongoing, so Boruto needs to leave the battleground.
Boruto pushes away and yells at his father about how it is always “later” with his father. He goes on to blame Naruto for not talking and teaching him in the first place. Naruto looks at his son, ready to say something, when the scientists who gave Boruto the ninja technology appear.
They stand in the middle of the arena and broadcast to everyone what Boruto used was their technology and that the amazing power can be everyone’s. However, before Naruto can intervene, the two bad guys Sasuke squared off against in the beginning of the story appear.
The big guy begins to display his power by causing quakes in the arena simply by punching the ground.
The ceiling and pillars holding up the arena begin to collapse and the ninja in the stands start to protect the attendees. However, Gaara’s son Shinki is about to take on the brute with his team when Gaara tells him that he can’t handle this level of power.
Naruto tells Boruto to get out of here when the other mysterious ninja appears and kicks the Hokage, sending him flying.
Sarada is helping evacuate the civilians when Sasuke saves her just before rubble falls on her. The big brute shows up behind them and looks to take revenge on Sasuke for chopping off his horn.
Boruto uses the ninja technology to shoot a fire-style jutsu, but the enemy absorbs it in his hand.
The enemy walks toward a scared Boruto when Naruto shows up from behind and starts to fight him before Naruto grabs Boruto to get to safety. The enemy looks to use a jutsu, when he is suddenly stopped by Shikamaru’s Shadow Binding jutsu.
Unfortunately, the enemy even absorbs Shikamaru’s shadow technique.
Sasuke and Naruto stand side by side as the Uchiha explains the bigger guy is Kinshiki and the smaller ninja is Momoshiki. He goes on to explain to Naruto that the scroll he found earlier was a warning of these two. They are after the chakra fruit, which are the tailed beasts.
Naruto tells the two to leave everyone else out of it and just deal with him; he is who they are after. Sasuke explains to Boruto and Sarada that these two use the chakra fruit or “Red Earth” like a drug to give them power and to prolong their lives.
Naruto calls them cowards for using this instead of their own strength, and Momoshiki doesn’t hear any of it. Instead, he pops four “Red Earth” drugs and creates a giant jutsu.
Boruto creates Shadow Clones to protect Sarada as he feels guilty for what is happening with Momoshiki.
Momoshiki releases a jutsu but Naruto shields everyone using his nine tails chakra. Sasuke gives Naruto his chakra to strengthen the barrier. Momoshiki continues his assault, throwing jutsu after jutsu at Naruto. However, Momoshiki releases the giant death bomb on top of Naruto and the others.
Before they are hit, Naruto tells Sasuke to look after the children before giving a smile.Naruto then calls out Kurama as he begins to unleash the full nine-tails power.
