New details on Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare continue to flow out of Activision and Infinity Ward this week, following the game’s not-so-surprise reveal on Monday morning, but the latest word on this year’s Call of Duty might be kind of a bummer for anyone who still enjoys co-op gaming.
According to a new report from Videogamer , published on Wednesday morning, the latest entry in Activision’s annualized military shooter franchise won’t include a cooperative campaign like we saw in last year’s Black Ops 3 . Instead, the series will return to its single-player roots with Infinite Warfare, forcing those in search of a local (or online) cooperative experience to settle for Zombies mode once again. The news was apparently confirmed by an Activision representative; however, there’s currently no word on whether or not we’ll see co-op campaigns return in future iterations.
The new Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare update comes after a busy couple of days for Infinity Ward’s return to the CoD spotlight. Over the weekend, a pair of teaser videos for this year’s Call of Duty appeared on the franchise’s YouTube page. Those were quickly followed by an announcement trailer on Monday morning, which also confirmed development of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered , and the first batch of Infinite Warfare (and Modern Warfare ) screenshots .
As if all that weren’t enough, it looks like we already have confirmation that this year’s Call of Duty will get a pre-launch beta, just as we’ve seen for the last several entries in the series. While we don’t have any information on the original source, AllGamesDelta published new images of Target pre-order cards offering access to an unannounced Infinite Warfare beta that would presumably run several weeks prior to the game’s November debut. Sadly, there’s no additional information on the beta, like a map count or period of availability, to report at this time.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is being developed for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game debuts on November 4.
