With games becoming more expansive and detailed, the space they take up on hard drives is only increasing. And now Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has confirmed one of the worst nightmares for gamers. Since Modern Warfare's file size hit 200GB, many gamers were already worried. Now, the game has exceeded 250GB, making 250GB SSDs pointless.
With the introduction of Call of Duty: Warzone, a spin-off CoD battle royale game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's file size has continued to grow drastically. Both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone have continued to receive seasonal updates, with new maps, player models, and weapons being the primary reasons for the game's massive file size.
The news doesn't come from Activision, but from a Twitter user Battle(non)sense, who shared a screenshot that shows the ridiculous file size of the game. Now that Modern Warfare's Season 7 is seemingly happening, fans can expect the game's file size to shoot up by a few more gigabytes.
Previously, players have requested Activision and Infinity Ward to split up the game into three parts – campaign, multiplayer, and Warzone. This would allow players to download only those parts that they wish to play. This would not only speed up downloads, but also save up hard drive space. It is surprising to see that neither Activision nor Infinity Ward has spoken about this idea.
Furthermore, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been confirmed to take up about 100GB of storage when installing. However, with post-launch content, there's no doubt that the game's overall size will continue to grow. So, players who wish to play both Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone will require a minimum of 350GB to 400GB of storage space set aside for these two games alone.
