The second time is the charm, huh? Call of Duty Warzone has surpassed over 15 million players by its third day. That’s very impressive, as even Apex Legends only managed to get ten million players. Warzone also had a strong launch, thanks to the multiple leaks and teasers that hyped the game. Well, at least for me.
Warzone managed to get over six million players on its first day, despite all the connectivity issues that the game was facing in its first few hours. Warzone achieved that high player count probably because it was free at launch and not locked behind a Modern Warfare purchase.
For me, Warzone is milestones better than Call of Duty’s first iteration of Battle Royale, Blackout. While I did enjoy Blackout for a while, the game never really gave me a reson to return. My go-to Battle Royale game was still Apex Legends. This time, I can say that I have been spending more hours in Warzone than I care to admit. It actually feels like a proper Battle Royale mode and not a half-assed attempt to grow a player base.
Warzone can grow even further and attract more players through continuous support and post-launch content. What I did like about the game is its simplicity and innovation. There is no inventory management that wastes your time. You only have to worry about Ammo and Cash, that’s about it. I love the fact that there is a shop where you can buy killstreaks. It feels incredibly similar to the shop in the Survival mode of Modern Warfare 3. Dying doesn’t get you thrown out of the game either. You can still come back after winning a 1v1 fight in the Gulag, or your squad can spend money to bring you back in if you fail. Last night my entire squad got decimated and was sent to the Gulag, all of us won our 1v1 matches and got back in the game. Unfortunately, we lost to the last squad and came second, but that only makes me want to play even more.
