Capcom said that it wants to bring back all of its old fighting games and bring them back to life on modern platforms for more people to enjoy.
This really isn't such a big surprise as the company is arguably the one that is most known and popular when it comes to fighting games. It already has a wide range of franchises under its belt, such as Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, and many others.
Capcom's Older Fighting Games
Many of the publisher's older fighting game franchises have been difficult to come by, more and more in the past few years. However, there are talks that could change this dilemma and bring some, if not all, of these old series to a wider audience.
During a recent interview, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics producer Shuhei Matsumoto revealed that the studio is planning to bring all of its older fighting games to modern platforms, according to ComicBook.
This is something that many fans, both longtime and new, will find exciting as they have not had many chances to play these particular titles when they were first released.
Matsumoto said that they want all of their classic fighting games to become available on modern platforms.
He said that the reason for this was that they wanted to be able to reach as many people who may have never had the opportunity to play them back in the day. Matsumoto added that the company wants to make them as accessible as possible for more people.
Matsumoto also revealed that Capcom was aware of the demand and hoped that making these classic fighting games accessible to more people could lead to "bigger and better things" moving forward, said NintendoLife.
Bringing Games to a Wider Audience
He was also asked a separate question regarding the possibility of Capcom re-releasing a game such as Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, again. Matsumoto then reiterated how the team was willing to do more re-releases in the future.
Matsumoto's comments regarding Capcom's older fighting games come as the company's latest title, Street Fighter 6, has already been a solid success. This is both in terms of sales and with fans.
Furthermore, the company's Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, which was recently announced, seems to mark the beginning of a trend of re-releasing older fighting games.
Matsumoto also noted that Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike had an amazing show at Evo 2024 with its top 6, which spurred the question about its potential re-release, according to EventHubs.
