Captain America: Civil War releases in May, and the latest issue of Empire Magazine has the scoop on the end of one of the most-anticipated films of the year and reveals that a returning character will be joining Civil War .
Like the comic book storyline on which the film is based, Civil War will have a lot of action and will definitely change the state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And
In the latest issue of Empire -- retrieved early by the folks at CBM -- there’s an interview with the Captain America: Civil War directors about what fans should expect from the blockbuster film. A key detail emerged from the interview when the Russo brothers were asked about how Civil War -- the first in Marvel’s Phase 3 slate -- affected the MCU moving forward.
"The consequences of Civil War will have an even more significant impact [than The Winter Soldier ]," said co-director Joe Russo. "In Civil War , we're going to change the Marvel Cinematic Universe's psychology, and it's an extreme shift."
What shift Russo refers to remains uncertain, but it could have something to do with the reported three death scenes that were filmed to keep set photo leaks from spoiling the plot. But Empire also revealed that a character is returning for Civil War.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts was involved in reshoots for the film, confirming the character’s inclusion and adding another dimension to Tony Stark’s story in the latest Captain America movie.
But the ending of Civil War will not only change the state of the MCU but it seems it will lead directly into Thanos’ return and the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War , as Civil War co-writer Stephen McFeely teased, "we've written three movies about a pretty stoic guy, and now we get to write for all the gang. But Civil War was a walk in the park compared to these other two. We're writing scenes for characters that haven't been cast yet..."
Joe Russo added how the movies he and his brother directed were connected, saying "we wanted Winter Soldier , Civil War , and the Infinity War films to have a strong through line. We look at this movie as setting the stage for Infinity War , how it starts and what condition everybody is in."
