Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions has been officially launched and is now available for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. If you like anime and soccer, then this game should be up your alley.
This release marks 10 years since the last Captain Tsubasa game was released for consoles. While there have been different games in the Captain Tsubasa franchise released since then, most of them were developed for the mobile platform like Captain Tsubasa Dream Team.
Rise of New Champions is based on the manga and anime series of the same name. The manga itself was first released in 1981 while the anime was first aired in 1983. The story follows Tsubasa Ozora as he journeys to become a soccer superstar and climb through the ranks of the different soccer leagues. Along the way he meets new friends and faces off against different rivals.
Like with the manga and anime, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions has players enter the world of professional soccer. Players get to use powerful offensive moves along with strong defensive super moves as they fight their way against different soccer teams that have star players of their own. Rise of New Champions offers different modes that include a Story Mode, Versus Modes, and an Online Versus Mode.
It’s not just Tsubasa and the Japan Junior Youth Team. Other national teams that are in the game include the Junior Youth Teams of Germany, America, Italy, England, Uruguay, Senegal, Netherlands, France, Argentina, and Brazil.
In a press statement, Dennis Lee of Bandai Namco America said that Rise of New Champions offers the basics of soccer gameplay while also providing a narrative element that ensures players go for each goal, each win, and each championship. Lee went on to say that Tsubasa is like what one would expect from any champion, which is that he overcomes each challenge and digs deep within himself to lead the team to give it their very best. Lee ended by saying that “this is the universal story of sportsmanship and fierce competition, told with a distinctly intense anime style, to create a soccer anime experience like no other.”
Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is available for the PC through Steam at $59.99. The versions for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch are available on Amazon, which you can learn more about here.
