Castle Crashers developer The Behemoth is launching the first DLC update for the side-scrolling beat 'em up in more than a decade.

The indie developer recently outlined its plans for the future in a livestream that would include major updates to Castle Crashers and BattleBlock Theater. The studio also revealed its work on a new game that will soon enter the prototype phase.

Castle Crashers is Getting a New DLC

Castle Crashers, which was originally released in 2008, will be getting a major update on Steam known as Painter Boss Paradise. This is the first new content that will be added to the game since new playable characters were introduced in 2012.

The upcoming update will also add Steam Workshop support and allow players to make their own characters that they can share with other people.

Additionally, The Behemoth said that creating characters will be as simple as swapping out a single image and letting the game handle other stuff, according to GameSpot.

For players who are not really eager to create their own characters, the developer is also adding an official new playable character, known as Paint Junior. This character uses their imagination to create art in order to defeat enemies.

Additionally, the upcoming Painter Boss Paradise update will introduce redrawn models for all of Castle Crashers' playable characters and weapons. Fortunately, players will have the option of toggling off this option in the menu.

Tons of New Content

Other updates that the indie developer shared in its recent presentation include BattleBlock Theater on Steam getting a quality-of-life update. It will give the game better graphics, sounds, bug fixes, and more, said Kotaku.

The studio also revealed that it was giving some of its other games some love, including Pit People who will also get a quality-of-life update. On the other hand, Alien Hominid HD and Alien Hominid Invasion will soon come to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 devices.

Castle Crashers is a game that takes the best elements of traditional side-scrolling beat 'em ups and adds a lot of flair to make it better. It also features great humor and gives players some nice surprises along the way, according to IGN.

The Behemoth's latest roadmap served as a way for the studio to "address several popular far requests from the past 21 years while establishing a new level of transparency with players.

And while no information was given about the developer's upcoming game, the presentation gave fans something to look forward to.
