Supercell's Clash of Clans September 2016 Update sneak peeks might be closer than you think. Find out all the latest on the pending game update, what will change and when it may finally be released.
UPDATE: 09/28/16 - An official date for Clash of Clans update Sneak Peeks has not been officially announced yet, but a Supercell team member has posted that they hope to begin Sneak Peeks the first week of October.
It’s been a long summer for Clash of Clans fans as Supercell took a full-blown hiatus from game updating. While the team returned to work in August, big updates for Clash of Clans were said to be on hold until late September. But as September has drawn to a near close, many fans are beginning to wonder if the update will even arrive this month or if it’ll actually be an October release.
While Supercell staff posted on the official Clash of Clans forums that they are “aiming” for a September release, it was suggested earlier this month that October may be a more realistic timeline for the release.
“The update will be here when it is ready. Whether that is September or not, I can't say,” wrote a Supercell forum moderator. “Of course the team will aim to have it out ASAP, but no set date or even month has been stated. My point is this: don’t start update hype or raise expectations when nothing official has been put out.”
The response was reiterated by Supercell Team member Anoushka as well.
“Neither I nor Marika stated that the update would go live in September for sure,” wrote Anoushka. “That's what we are aiming for, but it may as well happen in October. Hang in there, we're working on it .”
With just five days left for the month of September, it certainly seems like the Clash of Clans update won’t release until October. Nonetheless, there is one small tidbit of information that has shown up which may point to a September release after all. Or at the very least, the start of Supercell’s epic update sneak peeks.
The information comes via Redditor Chief spAnser who posted a few days ago that the Clash of Clans stage server had been updated to 8.481.x. This is the server where the upcoming version of a game goes prior to being released. In the case of Supercell, its game updates often live here during the Sneak Peek period. The same Redditor successfully predicted the Clash Royale update which released earlier this month, just prior to its release so he does serve as a legitimate source.
While Supercell certainly has no obligation to release the latest Clash of Clans update before September ends, we certainly hope the server update is an indicator that sneak peeks will begin sometime this week.
Clash Of Clans September/October 2016 Update: What To Expect
So, there haven’t been tons of details given about what to expect in the next Clash of Clans update, though we imagine it’ll be something fairly epic after such a long hiatus. In a forum post about the upcoming update, Supercell did reveal that a new Clan Challenge mode will be added.
“With Clan Challenges, Clans will be able issue a Friendly War request to any other Clan daring to accept the challenge,” Supercell wrote in a forum post. “Choose war participants, set the duration of preparation/battle days and send your Clan Challenge request! As soon as the opposing Clan accepts the request, preparation day will begin. This feature is not meant to replace Clan Wars (you can’t issue a Clan Challenge while there’s an ongoing Clan War), but it will offer better support for events”.
This new “Friendly War” feature will allow Clans to issue a friendly war request to another Clan if the are willing to accept the challenge. Hosts can set up different parameters for the war like who the participants may be or how long they have to prep. In a similar way that Clash Royale has set up tournaments you can participate in inside the app itself, these clan challenges appear to be a new way to facilitate meetups and social events around the game.
Just days ago Supercell provided another tidbit about what we can expect in the next Clash of Clans update. In a forum post, team member Marika announced a live stream battle event would be coming to showcase the new features and content.
“The next update is in the works and while getting ready for sneak peeks, we’re also preparing a livestream around the new features and content! It won’t be just about the update – let’s also have a little bit of fun and see which one will be stronger – Ground or Air! While only ground troops or only air troops might not be your usual army composition, neither will this be a normal Clan War. Yes, it’s time for a Friendly War! Ground vs Air livestream coming on October 9th at 3pm UTC!”

Besides the new Friendly War option and livestream event, we expect there are balancing changes to be had as well, though which characters may be affected have yet to be announced.
As we learn more about the impending Clash of Clans update release time and Sneak Peek schedule, we’ll be sure to update this post.
