For Still Wakes the Deep, Graves commissioned for the use of a unique instrument in creating the score so that it matches the feel and tone of the game. It's a metal sound structure that's similar in shape to an oil rig and affectionately called as "The Rig." What it does is create those unearthly and metallic sounds which permeate the score. In addition, to fill out the body of this sound, Graves utilized a Moog Model D synthesizer, which added another layer of eeriness when combined with The Rig.
The documentary mentioned also shows the quartet of musicians who provided the string and woodwinds allowing the soundtrack to have more human elements. The video also reveals on how they collaborated to bring the world of the game to life and how a truly unexpected instrument made its way into the score.
