Today was the day that we could have been exploring Cyberpunk 2077's Night City and engaging in compelling quests, until developer CD Projekt Red delayed the game to December 10. To make up for it, CD Projekt Red posted another Night City Wire episode today, including a gameplay trailer for Cyberpunk 2077.
The five minute long trailer sets up the back story for Cyberpunk 2077. The commentary accompanying the trailer states that Cyberpunk 2077 puts emphasis on open-world exploration, story-changing player choices, combat, and robust character development.
As one would expect, Cyberpunk 2077 is set in the year 2077, with America is in the middle of a nuclear conflict and division within the country resulting from an economic crisis. The country degenerates into a lawless warzone and people from all over are seeking refuge in Night City, the world's last great Megalopolis.
Despite the ongoing conflict within the country, Night City promises a dream of a civilized future. But, power struggles continue on the city streets where gangs, religious cultists, hustlers, corporate agents, politicians, and a variety of criminals seek out any means of gaining an upper hand over others.
In Cyberpunk 2077, players take on the role of a cyber-enhanced gun for hire named V. As a mercenary, players will need to ensure that their gear, skills, and reputation are all in check if you they to succeed on missions. The money earned from completing contracts can be spent on body customizations and buying powerful weapons. Combine skills and abilities to become a sharpshooting gunslinger, a stealthy hacker, or combine both of them to create something unique.
The plot in Cyberpunk 2077 involves stealing a biochip that grants immortality. Players end up soldering the chip into their brain and learn that it previously belonged to Johnny Silverhand (a.k.a. Keanu Reeves). The chip contains the digitized soul of Johnny Silverhand, who reveals his objective of bringing down the megacorp responsible for building the chip. With the valuable chip in their head, players become a high-value target for those who are after it.
Cyberpunk 2077 is releasing on December 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Stadia.
