Cyberpunk 2077 fans could be in for a big surprise.
CD Projekt RED’s newest project coming off the massive success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077, just might be the most anticipated release in recent memory. The game’s release date is still unknown, but we can be sure that it will be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the PC, and perhaps even the next generation of consoles. What is known, though, is that it’s going to be played in first-person, it’s going to be an RPG at its core and the primary weapons in the game are guns.
While not exactly a first-person shooter, the game has elements of the genre. The gameplay has also been described as open-ended in nature, allowing players to fulfill missions in the manner they prefer. This kind of gameplay variety isn’t restricted to the choices you make in the game, either; there will also be a huge variety of weapons to use, with different interesting mechanics.
Quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz recently talked about the game’s development at length during an interview with the Spanish outlet AreaJugones (Reddit translation here). During the topic of Cyberpunk 2077’s weaponry, he had some very interesting things to say.
“I would like to make a reference to one of the previous questions, and that is that our game is mainly an RPG, then the combat in the first person is something added to this genre,” said Tomaszkiewicz. “In this way, the gameplay in Cyberpunk offers a variety of ways to complete the missions, and I think this is the biggest difference because it not only matters with the shooter side, but also how to incorporate this aspect in your way of playing through the title. And we have a good amount of mechanics that are based on this concept which we have not yet shown, so stay tuned.”
“In addition to this, we are working on bringing good and fun combat mechanics, and I think we have a wide range of weapons that will make our game stand out,” Tomaszkiewicz continued. “I do not know if you remember in the previous demo that there were smart rifles, and this is something that I have not seen much in the current FPS. Also, I think that in terms of gameplay we have some ideas and things that are not ready yet and that we are trying to implement, because they will be very good.”
It looks like we could be in for more surprises, seeing as what has shown during the gameplay demo last year could still be upgraded or changed entirely. What is certain, though, is the hype building up for Cyberpunk 2077 up until its release, and I for one can’t wait for it to steal E3 this year.
