The first sales figures for Dark Souls 3 have been released, roughly one month after the game’s North American debut, and DS3’s first four weeks at retail (six-and-a-half in Japan) have already positioned it to become the best-selling entry in the Souls franchise.

More than three million copies of Dark Souls 3 have already been purchased, globally, Bandai Namco announced on Wednesday morning. The publisher stopped short of breaking those sales down by platform but we’d be shocked if PC or Xbox One sales outpaced the PS4, considering the entire Souls franchise was birthed from the PS3-exclusive Demon’s Souls.

Unsurprisingly, given the popularity of console gaming in each region, most of the early sales have come from North America. US and Canadian gamers have already purchased more than 1.5 million copies of Dark Souls 3, followed closely by a 1 million copies in Europe and half a million in Japan and other Asian countries. Combined, those figures give Dark Souls 3 the strongest start of any game in the franchise and also push the series’ total sales above the 13 million mark. Not bad for a company that originally made a name for itself with mech simulators .

Unfortunately, the latest word from Bandai Namco didn’t include an update on the game’s first expansion. We already know that the first Dark Souls 3 DLC will emerge sometime later this year and it’s believed the expansion will introduce new monsters, explorable areas and equipment to DS3 when it heads to PSN, Steam and Xbox Live.
