Phoenix Labs has revealed that Dauntless has surpassed six million players since its official launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC last week. The player count has doubled since the game’s PC Open Beta.
This is not the only milestone the game has achieved, though. In an impressive run, Dauntless players have already slain 13 million Behemoths and accumulated 20 million hunts in just a short period of time. Even more so, the community has forged 25 million weapons and petted a gazillion dogs. All in all, the game has recorded more than 15 million playing hours.
As far as the Dauntless “One Dauntless” initiative goes, the developer has reported that around 60 percent of all parties are actually cross-platform parties. It is a milestone the game achieved for being the first title to be launched with PS4 cross-play capability with other platforms. The initiative from Phoenix Labs allows full cross-play and cross-progressions in all platforms.
The decision to release the game as a free-to-play title on both PS4 and Xbox at the same time certainly helped in achieving glory. According to Phoenix Labs, the development team has been working tirelessly in trying to bring connectivity improvements, expand player capacity, optimize all queue loads, and take into consideration all player feedback.
For players, the success of Dauntless really relied on the massive task of uniting all platforms – it is a “all players under one roof” narrative. Add to this the fact that it is one of the few games to actually play smoothly between the PS4 and Xbox One platforms. And pretty much like Fortnite, this could serve as the beacon for what a true cross-play platform should be.
Interestingly, Dauntless shows icons for each platform near the players’ nameplate, seemingly boasting their platform of choice.
