Death Stranding was a weird game. I believe we can all agree with that regardless if you liked the game or not. Many fans expected DS to be a one-off game. However, it looks like that won’t be true. According to Norman Reedus, the actor who played the main protagonist, Sam Porter, a sequel is currently in development.
“I think we're doing a second Death Stranding,” Reedus said during the press conference of The Walking Dead Season 11. He further claimed that he is currently in negotiation with the company to reprise his role. But he hasn’t officially signed anything so far.
Death Stranding is a kind of game that doesn’t need a sequel. Anyone who has played the game knows that. It had a self-contained story that had a definitive end. I have no idea how they will make a sequel to that. Who knows, maybe they won’t follow the story of the first game and will create something new instead.
Not much is known about Death Stranding 2. Heck, it hasn’t been officially confirmed either. Confirmation by an actor is not the same thing as an official confirmation by the company. We have no idea if DS2 will be PS-console exclusive like the first game or not. Previous rumors have suggested that Sony passed on Kojima’s next game because they weren’t impressed by Death Stranding . Other rumors have suggested that the upcoming Kojima game might be an Xbox console exclusive. I guess time will tell.
An official confirmation might be years ahead, but DS fans still have some things to look forward to. An expanded version of Death Stranding titled Director’s Cut is currently in development, releasing exclusively for PlayStation 5 on September 24. There is currently no word on the PC version of the Director’s Cut. However, you can already play the basic version of DS on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
