IEM Katowice may be Leigh “Deman” Smith’s last time casting League of Legends . On Twitter today, he announced: “Never say never, but this is most likely the last League event I'll cast.” Deman was a popular shoutcaster, commentating the European and North American LCS for four splits. Since then, Deman has been casting at different ESL events, including the Intel Extreme Masters and Counter Strike: Global Offensive for the ESL Pro League. In 2015, he shoutcasted the League of Legends World Championship for the BBC.
When Joe Miller left Riot to become the editor-in-chief of ESL TV in 2014, he took Deman with him. They had both started shoutcasting Supreme Commander together in 2010, at the Multiplays I30 Event. Deman went on to cast with Miller at Riot, becoming an instant fan favorite. His voice became iconic, bringing exuberance and passion to the casters’ desk. According to Deman’s AMA on Reddit, when Riot switched the location of their EU studio from Cologne to Berlin, Deman didn’t relocate and was put on a temporary contract.
